Rome Total War Continue Campaign After Victory

Is there any way to continue playing even after you "win," because it just isnt satisfying having to quit while my enemys are still alive?

are you talking about the campaign?
If you are then there should be an option to continue playing even though you completed the objectives. After that point the game will not end until you conquer all the provinces. After that point you can no longer continue to play.

Yes, in the campaign but after I capture rome and fifty provinces a message comes up and at the bottom it has a button that says "exit to main menu"

The option to continue after completing the imperial campaign was added in a patch. So I suspect you are not playing on the most upto date version of the game.

Maybe..just maybe ...if you have a save you might be able to play on after you patch and replay from you last save. Then again the save might refuse to load up once patched.

Ok thanks.

What problems can be caused by not being up to date?

None, really. I played for ages unpatched.

If you want to keep playing the unpatched game after you finish, save just before you click to return to the menu, then reload the saved game.

Downloading the latest patches will fix bugs and problems encountered during the game (plus add some stuff, like being able to play after the Imperial Campeign is over). I encourage you to download all the latest patches for these reasons. You're sure to have a much better experiance with an updated game.

Top right corner of the 'Options' menu has your version number.

If on V1.0..the original...then the patch path is V1.3 then V1.5. You wont need any patches inbetween.

Reading the patch read-me files will tell whats changed. V1.3 fixes a lot...its over a 100meg download. Bribery becomes much more expensive so could alter your campaign. V1.5 fixes most of a memory leak problem that particulary affected users who like to play for hours on end.

Could playing unpatched cause the game to close out to the desktop when I try to battle?

Hi Roman Warlord

Talking about a campaign game?

Having a battle should not crash to desktop...on any version/patch. You have had many battles without this happening.

Whats changed? Is this only happening in the battles after you have completed the 50 region campaign?

Try New Roman, Severous.

I recenlty downlaoded the patches after playing for a year without them and they improve the game no end with the AI actualy trying to attack you now which is fun if easier/harder at times.

One of the major things it fixed was the save game bug where the AI would break off a seige when you reloaded.

It always crashes before the battle fully loads(I think this may be my video card but I want to be sure before I spend any money).

I have RTW 1.5, and once and a while mine crashes to the desktop when starting a battle too. But not always. It is only maybe one time in ten or so.

I think in my case it is because of a unit mod I am using, because the game never crashed before I added it. But I love those Bows of Artemis too much to go back to plain archers. So I just quicksave before starting a battle on the off chance it crashes.

Sorry Romans..for mixing you two up.

^New Roman
If you have never managed to have a battle then something is up. I had to buy a graphics card for my PC in Dec2005 when I first got RTW..previously my PC had no dedicated graphics card and the game jerked if it played at all.

Latest windows media drivers also had to be downloaded to play the little movies.

You might try going into video options and lowering the various advanced graphics option. Turn off grass for instance is a good one if you suspect your PC is struggling to play the game.

Good luck
